These Harness Terms explain how Harness works with your information, the AI providers and accounts you connect, and what you are responsible for when you use it. They add to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If you have a signed agreement with NAU Labs for Harness, that agreement controls where it differs from these terms.

The short version

  • Your content is yours. We use it only to provide and support Harness, we never sell it, and we never use it to train AI models.
  • Harness keeps your workspace where it runs: on your computer for the desktop app, or on the server we run for your company.
  • To answer you, Harness sends your request and the content it needs to the AI provider in use, and that provider’s terms apply.
  • AI can be wrong. Review what Harness produces before you rely on it or send it to anyone.
  • You are responsible for what Harness does in the accounts you connect, so choose its access with care.

This summary is for convenience. The full terms below control.

How Harness works

Harness is a work assistant. When you ask for something, it plans the work, uses the tools and accounts you have connected, and prepares results such as answers, documents and drafts. To do that, it sends your request and the content it needs to an AI model, then shows you what comes back.

Harness runs in one of two ways:

  • Desktop app. Harness runs on your own computer, and your workspace is stored there.
  • Hosted. Harness runs on a server that NAU Labs sets up and operates for your company, and your workspace is stored on that server.

Your content

Your content means what you put into Harness and what it produces for you, such as messages, files, documents, memories, automations and their results.

Between you and NAU Labs, you own your content. We do not claim ownership of what you put into Harness or what it creates for you.

We use your content only to provide, maintain and support Harness for you, to keep it secure, and when the law requires it. We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models. People at NAU Labs access it only when that is needed to run, support or fix your service, or when the law requires it.

AI providers

Harness works with AI models from other companies, such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Ollama. Each request, and the content needed to answer it, goes to the provider in use. Depending on the request, that can include your messages, files you attach or point Harness to, results from the tools it uses, and the notes Harness keeps about your preferences and writing style.

Each provider handles that content under its own terms, privacy policy and retention rules, and some keep data for a period of time. We do not control how providers store or use data, so please read their terms. When you connect your own provider account, your agreement with that provider applies. When Harness uses a provider account that we set up for your company, ask us which provider it is.

For sensitive work, use provider plans whose terms say they do not train on your data, such as business or API plans. You must also follow the usage policies of the provider in use.

Connected accounts and actions

Harness can connect to accounts you choose, such as Microsoft or Google mail, calendar and files, cloud storage and other apps. Once connected, it can read from them and act in them when you or an automation ask, including sending email and changing calendar events.

You decide what to connect and what to ask for, and you are responsible for the actions Harness takes in your accounts and the messages it sends for you. Review drafts before they go out, and set up automations with care.

  • Approvals. On a computer paired with Harness, the default Ask first mode asks for your approval before Harness acts there. Full access lets it act without asking.
  • Connected services. Harness does not ask before sending email or making other changes in connected services, so check what you ask it to do.
  • Hidden instructions. Content Harness reads, such as an email or a web page, can contain instructions written to mislead AI. Keep an eye on what Harness does, especially with messages and files from people you don’t know.
  • Removing access. You can disconnect accounts in Harness, and you can also remove its access in your Microsoft or Google account settings.

Where your information is kept

  • Your workspace. Conversations, files, document versions, memories, automations and their results are stored where Harness runs: on your computer, or on the server we operate for your company.
  • Your OneDrive. If you sign in with Microsoft, Harness keeps a copy of your chats in your own OneDrive by default. Files you save to OneDrive or Google Drive stay in those accounts.
  • Writing style. To write in your style, Harness reads samples of your sent email from time to time.
  • Web search. When Harness searches the web, your search terms go to search engines such as DuckDuckGo, Bing and Brave.
  • Voice. Live voice is processed by the speech engine that runs with Harness, on your computer or on your company’s server. The microphone in the message box uses your browser’s own speech recognition, which your browser maker may process.
  • Notifications. Alerts reach you through your browser’s or device’s notification service.
  • Logins. Logins for the accounts you connect are stored encrypted.

Keeping and deleting your information

  • You can export your workspace from Harness.
  • Deleting a chat starts a period of 30 days when it can still be restored. After that, Harness removes the files and records that belong only to that chat.
  • Memories you move to Trash can be restored. Choosing Forget erases a memory and its history.
  • To delete your whole workspace, or anything that remains after you delete it, contact us and we will delete it from the servers we operate.

When your Harness service ends, we delete your workspace from the servers we operate within 30 days, unless your agreement says otherwise or the law requires us to keep it. Copies held by AI providers follow their own retention rules, and copies in your own accounts, such as OneDrive, stay under your control.

AI output

AI can make mistakes. Harness can produce information that is wrong, incomplete, out of date, or similar to what others receive. Review its work before you rely on it, act on it or share it, especially in legal, medical, financial or other important matters.

Harness does not give legal, medical, tax, financial or other professional advice, and it does not replace the judgment of a qualified professional. Checks that Harness runs on its own work are written by the AI model and are not an independent review.

Acceptable use

Use Harness lawfully and responsibly. Do not use it to:

  • break the law or violate anyone’s rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights
  • make decisions about someone’s health, legal matters, money, insurance, employment, housing or education without review by a qualified person
  • create harmful, deceptive or abusive content, or pretend to be someone else
  • get around security, use accounts or data you are not allowed to use, or attack other systems
  • work with information you are not allowed to share, or with the regulated information described below

You must also follow the usage policies of the AI provider in use.

Sensitive and regulated information

  • Regulated information. Harness is built for everyday business work and is not offered for regulated information, such as protected health information under HIPAA. For work like that, we build a private system for you instead.
  • Payment and identity details. Do not put payment card numbers, bank account numbers, government ID numbers or passwords into Harness.
  • Legal work. If you are a lawyer, you decide which client information to use with Harness and whether you need your client’s consent. Using Harness does not create legal privilege, and your duties of confidentiality still apply. For confidential client work, we can build your firm a private system.

Changes and new features

We improve Harness often. Features may change, and some may be marked as early versions. We will not start using your content in new ways, such as training AI models, without telling you first and getting your agreement.

When we update these terms, we will change the date at the top of this page. If you have a signed agreement with us, it controls.

Disclaimers and liability

Harness is provided as described in your agreement with us. Where your agreement does not say otherwise, the disclaimers and limits of liability in our Terms of Use apply.
